Democracy and the UN

The International Day of Democracy will be observed around the world on 15 September. This will be the third commemoration of the Day in accordance with General Assembly resolution 62/7 of 8 November 2007 entitled “Support by the United Nations system of the efforts of Governments to promote and consolidate new or restored democracies”.

UNCT bids farewell to UNFPA representative Camara-Drammeh

The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) bid farewell to one of its longest serving members Aisha Camara Drammeh, who is moving to Botswana where she will be reporting for duty on the 1st October.
At ceremony marked by the camaraderie and friendship that marked Aisha's term in Swaziland, UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Musinga T. Bandora thanked Mrs. Camara-Drammeh on behalf of the UNCT for her partnership, support and energetic leadership.

UN-Government sign new UNDAF 2011-2015 agreement

The Government of Swaziland and the United Nations have signed the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The agreement which outlines the areas of national development priority to receive United Nations support was endorsed at a ceremony at the Royal Villas in Ezulwini and signed by the Minister of Economic Planning and Development Prince Hlangusemphi on behalf of the Government of Swaziland. United Nations Resident Coordinator Mr. Musinga T. Bandora signed on behalf of the United Nations.

New Women agency created

A new United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women - UN Women has been created by the UN General Assembly.  UNDP will have a key role to play with UN Women at the global, regional, and country levels. 


 

2010-2011 is Year of Youth

The International Year of Youth was launched in New York in the UN General Assembly Hall on the 12th August 2012 with an eclectic event of speeches, musical performances, videos and poetry. 


 
WHO calls off swine influenza emergency
WHO has called off the H1N1 influenza emergency after it was confirmed from various parts of the world that the flu had stabilized and begining to conform to patterns of ordinary flu.
